After teaching in Indiana for 8 years, Ed came to Colorado in 1975 to be the first Assistant Principal in the, then brand new Battle Mountain High School - the Vail Valley's high school in Eagle-Vail which was replaced with the opening of the NEW BMHS in Edwards in Fall, 2009. In 1977-78, Ed was the last principal of the old Minturn Middle School and made the preparation for the present middle school in Maloit Park.
Ed began his career in real estate in 1978 with a short stint in time-share sales prior to being hired by Vail Associates Real Estate, January 1, 1980. After only one year with V.A.R.E., with Ed's very successful early years in real estate sales and the background in school administration, he was asked to take the top position as Managing Broker for Vail Associates Real Estate. But, with Beaver Creek getting its start at this same time, Ed chose to go back to full time sales in late 1982 and has been in Beaver Creek and Bachelor Gulch Village real estate offices most of that time period.
Among Ed's many real estate experiences of 32 years include being selected by the developer to be the Sales Manager for McCoy Peak Lodge in Beaver Creek in 1994 when 29 of 37 condominiums were sold in the first 10 days on the market for a total of $34 million. Later in December, 1999 also in the position of the developer's Sales Manager for the Penthouses above the Ritz Carlton, Bachelor Gulch Village all of the 22 Condominiums intially offered were sold in a drawing among the 93 contracts submitted for the purchase of the 22 condominiums after Ed introduced the properties just 2 weeks earlier to the local real estate brokers. This resulted in a total of $63.5 million in sales. However, Ed's real success rests in his attention to the PEOPLE he is serving--not the price of the property being bought or sold. He takes pride in his focus on the needs of the people and thus assists many locals, first time vacation home buyers and new residents in the valley in their purchases and, of course, as the listing broker when these clients are ready to sell their homes and properties.
Ed holds a B.A. in Business from Ball State University and a Masters in Education Administration from Purdue University.
Ed is active in Trinity Church as a current Leadership Team Member and is Trustee of the Crissa Lea Swinford Memorial Scholarship Fund in memory of his daughter Crissa whose life was cut short at age 25 in 2001. The Angels in Action annual 5K fun run/walk is held annually to commemorate Crissa's life and as a fund raiser for the scholarships given annually to graduating Lady Huskies of Battle Mountain High School.
Ed is originally from Rising Sun, Indiana. Both of Ed's daughters were born in Colorado and are rare natives of the Vail Valley. He is now a proud first time grandfather to his grandson born in August, 2010.
